Why it exists: a language model will write a confident, fluent reading of your chart whether or not your chart says any of it. So GrivaaAstro is built the other way round — the astrology is calculated in code on the Lahiri ayanamsa, the model is given only those computed facts, and what it writes is checked back against the chart before you see it — a reading that claims something the chart does not support is rewritten. That is why this app will sometimes tell you it cannot say something. The checks catch a great deal, not everything, so every answer carries a thumbs-down that reaches the team.

Is GrivaaAstro accurate, or is it AI guessing?

The astrology is calculated, not generated. Planetary positions, dasha periods, divisional charts, guna milan and panchang all come from the app's own astronomy engine using the Lahiri ayanamsa. A language model is used only to put those computed facts into readable words, and the output is checked in code against the chart before it is shown — a reading that claims something the chart does not support is rewritten. Does GrivaaAstro use the mean node or the true node for Rahu and Ketu?

The mean node. Rahu is computed as the mean lunar node and Ketu as the point exactly 180 degrees opposite, both marked retrograde, on the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. This is the classical convention most Indian almanacs follow. The true node can sit up to roughly 1.5 degrees away, which is occasionally enough to place Rahu in a different nakshatra — so if your chart from another source shows Rahu in the neighbouring nakshatra, this is usually why.

How exact are the dasha dates?

The arithmetic is exact — Vimshottari periods are worked out from the Moon's exact longitude at birth and the nakshatra it falls in. What that arithmetic cannot carry is uncertainty in the birth time: a few minutes either way moves a mahadasha boundary by weeks, and at multi-decade horizons by longer. So read a boundary date as the centre of a window rather than the day something switches, and if your birth time is approximate, say so when you create the chart — the app then shows how sensitive your chart is to it.
